Pyu City States
The Pyu City States were a group of ancient city-states located in present-day Myanmar, flourishing from around the 1st century BCE to the 9th century CE. They were known for their advanced urban planning, trade networks, and cultural exchanges with neighboring regions, including India and Southeast Asia. The cities, such as Sri Ksetra and Beikthano, featured impressive architecture and were centers of Buddhism.
These city-states played a crucial role in the spread of Buddhism in the region and contributed to the development of Myanmar's early civilization. The decline of the Pyu City States began in the 9th century, largely due to the rise of the Burman kingdom, which eventually led to the integration of the Pyu territories into a larger political entity.
