Pyramidal Tract
The pyramidal tract is a major pathway in the central nervous system that carries motor signals from the brain to the spinal cord. It is primarily responsible for voluntary movements, particularly those involving fine motor skills. The tract originates in the motor cortex of the brain and descends through the brainstem and spinal cord.
This tract is divided into two main components: the corticospinal tract and the corticobulbar tract. The corticospinal tract controls movements of the limbs and trunk, while the corticobulbar tract influences facial and neck muscles. Damage to the pyramidal tract can lead to motor deficits, such as weakness or paralysis.
