Pteridium aquilinum
Pteridium aquilinum, commonly known as bracken fern, is a large, perennial fern found in temperate and tropical regions worldwide. It typically grows in open woodlands, grasslands, and disturbed areas, reaching heights of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet). The fern has triangular fronds that can spread widely, forming dense colonies.
Bracken fern reproduces through spores, which are produced in structures called sporangia located on the undersides of its fronds. While it plays a role in some ecosystems, Pteridium aquilinum can be invasive in certain areas, outcompeting native plants and altering habitats.
