Psychrolutes marcidus
Psychrolutes marcidus, commonly known as the blobfish, is a deep-sea fish found primarily off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand. It inhabits depths of around 600 to 1,200 meters (2,000 to 3,900 feet) where the pressure is much higher than at the surface. The blobfish has a gelatinous body that helps it withstand these extreme conditions.
This fish is known for its unique appearance, characterized by a droopy, sad-looking face when brought to the surface. However, in its natural habitat, the blobfish appears more streamlined. It primarily feeds on small crustaceans and other marine organisms that drift by in the deep sea.
