Proto-Bulgarians
The Proto-Bulgarians were a group of ancient tribes that originated in Central Asia, specifically around the region of the Volga River. They are believed to have migrated westward during the early Middle Ages, eventually settling in the area that is now Bulgaria. Their culture was influenced by various neighboring peoples, including the Slavs and Byzantines.
These tribes played a significant role in the formation of the First Bulgarian Empire in the late 7th century. The Proto-Bulgarians were known for their warrior society and horse-riding skills, which helped them establish dominance in the Balkans. Their legacy continues to influence the cultural identity of modern Bulgaria.
