Princess Josephine of Baden was born on March 18, 1813, in Carlsruhe, Grand Duchy of Baden. She was the daughter of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden and Princess Sophie of Sweden. Josephine became known for her beauty and grace, and she played a significant role in the social life of her time. In 1831, she married Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, who later became King Wilhelm I of Prussia. Their union strengthened ties between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the Kingdom of Prussia. Josephine was involved in charitable activities and supported various cultural initiatives throughout her life. She passed away on June 19, 1900.
