Primary Care Trusts
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) were organizations in the National Health Service (NHS) in England, established to manage and deliver primary healthcare services. They were responsible for planning and funding local health services, ensuring that communities had access to general practitioners (GPs), hospitals, and other healthcare providers. PCTs aimed to improve health outcomes by focusing on preventive care and community health needs.
PCTs were created in 2000 and played a crucial role in the healthcare system until they were abolished in 2013. Their responsibilities were transferred to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), which continued the work of organizing and funding healthcare services at the local level.
