President of Portugal
The President of Portugal is the head of state and serves as a key figure in the country's political system. Elected for a five-year term, the president represents the nation and ensures the constitution is upheld. The role includes appointing the Prime Minister and other government officials, as well as overseeing national defense and foreign policy.
The president also has the power to dissolve the Assembly of the Republic, Portugal's parliament, and call for new elections. While the position is largely ceremonial, the president can influence political decisions and act as a mediator during times of crisis.
