President Suharto
President Suharto was the second President of Indonesia, serving from 1967 to 1998. He came to power after a coup that overthrew the previous government led by President Sukarno. Suharto's rule was marked by significant economic growth, but it was also characterized by authoritarianism and human rights abuses.
During his presidency, Suharto implemented policies that aimed to stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment. However, his government faced criticism for corruption and suppression of political dissent. In 1998, amid a financial crisis and widespread protests, Suharto resigned, ending his 31-year rule.
