Pope John XVI
Pope John XVI, also known as John XVI of Rome, was a pope who served during the late 10th century. His papacy is often considered controversial due to the political turmoil of the time, including conflicts with the Holy Roman Empire and various factions within Rome. He was elected in 997 and is remembered for his efforts to restore order in the church amid widespread corruption.
His reign was relatively short, lasting only a few years until his deposition in 998. After being ousted, he was succeeded by Pope Gregory V. The historical records about Pope John XVI are limited, making it difficult to assess his impact on the Catholic Church fully.
