Pompeii Mosaics
The Pompeii Mosaics are intricate artworks created from small pieces of colored stone, glass, or ceramic, found in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. These mosaics often decorated floors and walls, showcasing scenes from mythology, nature, and daily life, reflecting the culture and artistry of the time.
Many of the mosaics were preserved under volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This preservation allows us to study the craftsmanship and themes of Roman art, providing valuable insights into the social and cultural aspects of life in Pompeii before its destruction.
