Polyhydramnios
Polyhydramnios is a medical condition characterized by an excess of amniotic fluid surrounding a developing fetus during pregnancy. This condition can occur for various reasons, including multiple pregnancies, fetal abnormalities, or maternal diabetes. It is typically diagnosed through ultrasound examinations that measure the amount of amniotic fluid.
While mild cases of polyhydramnios may not cause significant issues, more severe cases can lead to complications such as preterm labor, placental abruption, or fetal distress. Management often involves monitoring the pregnancy closely, and in some cases, procedures may be performed to reduce the excess fluid.
