Pleuronectidae
Pleuronectidae, commonly known as flatfish, are a family of fish characterized by their flattened bodies and asymmetrical eyes. They are primarily found in marine environments, often residing on the ocean floor. This family includes well-known species such as flounder and halibut, which are popular in commercial fishing.
Flatfish undergo a unique developmental process where they start as symmetrical larvae but eventually develop a flattened shape, with one eye migrating to the other side of the head. They are adept at camouflage, allowing them to blend into their surroundings and evade predators.
