Plan of Iguala
The Plan of Iguala was a political document established in 1821 during the Mexican War of Independence. It aimed to create a unified Mexico by promoting three main principles: Independence, Religion, and Unity. The plan sought to ensure that Mexico would be a sovereign nation, maintain the Catholic faith as the official religion, and promote equality among different social classes.
The plan was drafted by Agustín de Iturbide, a former royalist officer, and was crucial in bringing together various factions, including royalists and insurgents. It ultimately led to the successful conclusion of the war and the establishment of the Mexican Empire under Iturbide's rule.
