Plagiocephaly
Plagiocephaly is a condition characterized by an asymmetrical shape of a baby's head. It often occurs when a baby spends too much time lying in one position, leading to flattening on one side of the skull. This condition is most commonly seen in infants under six months old and can be influenced by factors such as premature birth or torticollis, a condition that affects neck movement.
Treatment for plagiocephaly typically involves repositioning techniques to encourage the baby to turn their head in different directions. In some cases, a cranial orthosis, or helmet, may be recommended to help shape the skull as the baby grows. Most cases resolve naturally as the child develops and begins to sit up and move around more.
