Craniosynostosis
Craniosynostosis is a condition where one or more of the sutures in a baby’s skull close prematurely. This early fusion can lead to an abnormal head shape and may restrict brain growth, potentially causing increased pressure inside the skull. The exact cause is often unknown, but it can occur as an isolated condition or as part of a genetic syndrome.
Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and imaging tests like CT scans. Treatment usually requires surgery to correct the skull shape and allow for normal brain development. Early intervention is important for the best outcomes in both appearance and cognitive function.
