Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza was an Italian-born explorer and colonial administrator known for his expeditions in Central Africa during the late 19th century. He is best recognized for his role in the exploration of the Congo River and his efforts to establish French influence in the region, particularly in what is now the Republic of the Congo.
De Brazza's expeditions were marked by a focus on diplomacy and cooperation with local tribes, contrasting with the more aggressive tactics of other colonial powers. He founded the city of Brazzaville, named in his honor, which became an important administrative center for French Equatorial Africa.
