Pictish symbols
Pictish symbols are a collection of ancient carvings found primarily in Scotland, attributed to the Picts, a group of Celtic tribes. These symbols, which date back to around the 5th to 9th centuries, are often seen on standing stones, metalwork, and other artifacts. They include various geometric shapes, animals, and human figures, but their exact meanings remain largely unknown.
The symbols are typically divided into two categories: abstract symbols and zoomorphic symbols. Abstract symbols include shapes like circles and spirals, while zoomorphic symbols depict animals such as fish and birds. The Pictish symbols are significant for understanding the culture and beliefs of the Picts, as well as their interactions with neighboring societies.
