Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is a government agency in the Philippines responsible for monitoring and studying volcanic and seismic activities. Established in 1982, it aims to provide timely information and warnings about natural hazards, helping to protect lives and property.
PHIVOLCS conducts research on the country's numerous volcanoes, such as Mayon Volcano and Taal Volcano, and maintains a network of seismic stations to detect earthquakes. The agency also educates the public about disaster preparedness and response, promoting safety in a region prone to natural disasters.
