Philippa of Savoy
Philippa of Savoy (1430-1487) was a noblewoman from the House of Savoy, born in Savoy, a region in modern-day France. She was the daughter of Amadeus VIII of Savoy and Marie of Burgundy. Philippa became the Queen of Portugal through her marriage to King Afonso V in 1447, strengthening ties between the two regions.
As queen, Philippa played a significant role in the cultural and political life of Portugal. She was known for her piety and charitable works, contributing to various religious institutions. Philippa's legacy continued through her children, including John II of Portugal, who succeeded Afonso V.
