Philiki Etaireia
The Philiki Etaireia was a secret society founded in 1814 in Odesa, aimed at liberating Greece from Ottoman rule. Its members were primarily Greek merchants and intellectuals who sought to inspire a national awakening and coordinate efforts for independence. The society played a crucial role in the lead-up to the Greek War of Independence.
The organization spread its influence across various regions, including Constantinople and the Peloponnese. Key figures, such as Alexander Ypsilantis, emerged from the society, leading uprisings that ultimately contributed to Greece's liberation. The efforts of the Philiki Etaireia laid the groundwork for the establishment of the modern Greek state.
