Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis is the inflammation of the pharynx, which is the area at the back of the throat. It often causes a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and sometimes fever. This condition can be caused by viral infections, such as the common cold or influenza, as well as bacterial infections like Streptococcus.
Treatment for pharyngitis typically focuses on relieving symptoms. Over-the-counter pain relievers, throat lozenges, and warm saltwater gargles can help soothe discomfort. In cases caused by bacterial infections, such as strep throat, antibiotics may be prescribed to eliminate the infection and prevent complications.
