Pharos Lighthouse
The Pharos Lighthouse, also known as the Lighthouse of Alexandria, was an ancient structure built on the small island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt. Constructed around 280 BC during the reign of Ptolemy II, it was designed by the architect Sostratus of Cnidus. The lighthouse stood approximately 100 meters tall and was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The Pharos Lighthouse served as a guide for sailors navigating the busy harbor of Alexandria. It featured a three-tiered design with a square base, a cylindrical middle section, and a circular top, which housed a large flame to illuminate the night sky. The lighthouse was eventually destroyed by a series of earthquakes between the 12th and 15th centuries.
