Peterloo Massacre
The Peterloo Massacre occurred on August 16, 1819, in Manchester, England. A large crowd gathered at St. Peter's Field to demand political reform and better working conditions. The peaceful demonstration attracted around 60,000 people, including workers and their families, who sought representation in Parliament.
As the crowd assembled, local authorities feared unrest and called in the military. Troops charged into the crowd, resulting in chaos and violence. The confrontation led to the deaths of at least 15 people and injuries to hundreds more. The event highlighted the growing demand for reform and increased awareness of social injustices in the Industrial Revolution era.
