Peter I of Courtenay
Peter I of Courtenay was a French nobleman who became the Emperor of the Latin Empire of Constantinople from 1216 until his death in 1219. He was born around 1170 and was a member of the House of Courtenay, a prominent family in medieval France. Peter's reign was marked by challenges, including conflicts with local powers and the struggle to maintain control over the empire established during the Fourth Crusade.
His rule was short-lived, as he was captured by the Bulgarians in 1217 and later died in captivity. Peter's legacy is often overshadowed by the turbulent history of the Latin Empire, which faced numerous difficulties during its existence.
