Periophthalmus
Periophthalmus is a genus of fish commonly known as mudskippers. These unique fish are primarily found in intertidal zones of tropical and subtropical regions, where they can be seen moving on land as well as in water. Mudskippers have adapted to their environment with specialized fins that allow them to "walk" on land and breathe through their skin and the lining of their mouths.
Mudskippers are known for their distinctive bulging eyes, which provide them with excellent vision both above and below water. They primarily feed on small invertebrates and detritus found in mudflats. Their ability to thrive in both aquatic and terrestrial habitats makes them a fascinating subject of study in evolutionary biology.
