People Power Movement
The People Power Movement refers to a series of nonviolent protests in the Philippines that led to the ousting of President Ferdinand Marcos in February 1986. This movement was characterized by mass gatherings, peaceful demonstrations, and the active participation of various sectors of society, including religious groups, students, and ordinary citizens. It aimed to restore democracy and address issues of corruption and human rights abuses.
The movement culminated in the historic EDSA Revolution, where millions of Filipinos gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to demand change. The peaceful nature of the protests inspired similar movements worldwide, highlighting the power of collective action in achieving political reform.
