EDSA Revolution
The EDSA Revolution, also known as the People Power Revolution, was a peaceful uprising in the Philippines that took place from February 22 to 25, 1986. It aimed to end the 20-year dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and restore democracy in the country. Millions of Filipinos gathered along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to protest against the regime, showcasing unity and non-violent resistance.
The revolution was sparked by the assassination of opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr. in 1983, which galvanized public sentiment against Marcos. The movement culminated in Marcos fleeing to exile, leading to the election of Corazon Aquino, the first female president of the Philippines, and a significant shift towards democratic governance.
