Paul V
Paul V was the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1605 to 1621. Born Camillo Borghese, he was a member of the influential Borghese family and became known for his efforts to strengthen the authority of the papacy. He is recognized for his involvement in the Counter-Reformation, a movement aimed at reforming the Church and countering the Protestant Reformation.
During his papacy, Paul V focused on various issues, including the promotion of art and architecture. He commissioned the construction of the famous Santa Maria della Vittoria church in Rome, which houses the renowned sculpture Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. His reign also saw the establishment of the Borghese Gallery, showcasing art collections from his family.
