Patria Potestas
Patria Potestas is a legal concept from ancient Roman law that refers to the authority and power a father held over his family. This power included the rights to make decisions regarding the upbringing, education, and property of his children. The father had the ability to control his children's lives until they reached adulthood or were emancipated.
Under Patria Potestas, the father also had the right to manage the family's assets and could even arrange marriages for his children. This system emphasized the importance of the male head of the household in maintaining family order and authority in Roman society.
