Patellar Tendon
The patellar tendon is a strong band of tissue that connects the patella (kneecap) to the tibia (shinbone). It plays a crucial role in the movement of the knee, allowing for activities such as walking, running, and jumping. The tendon is an extension of the quadriceps tendon, which connects the quadriceps muscles at the front of the thigh to the kneecap.
Injuries to the patellar tendon, such as tendinitis or tears, can occur due to overuse or trauma, often affecting athletes. Proper warm-up and stretching can help prevent these injuries, ensuring the tendon remains healthy and functional for physical activities.
