Paranal Observatory
The Paranal Observatory is located in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. Operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO), it is renowned for its advanced telescopes, including the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The site benefits from exceptionally clear skies, making it one of the best places in the world for astronomical observations.
Opened in 1999, the observatory plays a crucial role in various astronomical research projects. Its location at an altitude of 2,635 meters (8,643 feet) helps minimize atmospheric interference, allowing scientists to study distant galaxies, stars, and other celestial phenomena with remarkable clarity.
