Pallasite
Pallasite is a rare type of stony-iron meteorite that consists of a mixture of metallic iron and silicate minerals. It is characterized by its beautiful, gem-like olivine crystals, which can be green or yellow in color. These meteorites are believed to originate from the core-mantle boundary of differentiated asteroids, where the metallic and silicate components have separated.
Discovered in 1808 by Peter Pallas, a Russian naturalist, pallasites are among the most sought-after meteorites for collectors due to their striking appearance. They are often cut and polished to showcase their unique crystal structures, making them popular in jewelry and decorative items.
