Palanquin
A palanquin is a type of covered litter used for transporting people, typically in regions of Asia. It consists of a seat or bed enclosed by a frame and is carried by bearers on poles. Palanquins were commonly used by nobility and wealthy individuals before the advent of modern transportation.
These carriers were often elaborately decorated and could be made from various materials, including wood and fabric. In some cultures, such as in India and China, palanquins held cultural significance and were associated with status and luxury. They are less common today but remain a symbol of historical transportation methods.
