Palace of Whitehall
The Palace of Whitehall was a significant royal residence in London, serving as the main palace of the English monarch from the 16th century until the 17th century. Originally a medieval monastery, it was transformed into a grand palace by Henry VIII. The palace featured numerous rooms, gardens, and courtyards, making it a center of political power and royal events.
In 1698, a devastating fire destroyed much of the palace, leading to its decline. Today, only the Banqueting House, designed by Inigo Jones, remains as a part of the original structure, serving as a historic site and venue for events.
