Ottoman government
The Ottoman government was a complex system that ruled over a vast empire from the late 13th century until the early 20th century. It was characterized by a centralized authority led by the Sultan, who held both political and religious power. The government was organized into various administrative units, including provinces governed by Beys or Pashas, who implemented the Sultan's policies.
The legal system was based on Sharia law, alongside secular laws known as Kanun. The Devshirme system recruited boys from Christian families to serve in the military and administration, creating a loyal elite known as the Janissaries. This structure allowed the Ottoman Empire to maintain control over diverse populations and territories.
