Ottoman Society
Ottoman Society was a diverse and multi-ethnic community that thrived under the Ottoman Empire, which lasted from the late 13th century until the early 20th century. It included various groups such as Turks, Greeks, Arabs, Jews, and Armenians, each contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of the empire. The society was organized into a hierarchical structure, with the Sultan at the top, followed by nobles, merchants, artisans, and peasants.
Religion played a significant role in Ottoman Society, with Islam as the dominant faith, but other religions were also practiced. The millet system allowed different religious communities to govern themselves in matters of personal law, fostering a degree of autonomy. This system helped maintain social order and encouraged coexistence among the diverse populations within the empire.
