Ostomy
An ostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the body for the discharge of bodily waste. This is often necessary for individuals with conditions affecting the digestive or urinary systems, such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or bladder cancer. The opening, called a stoma, allows waste to exit the body into a collection bag.
People with an ostomy may use different types of bags, depending on the type of ostomy performed, such as colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy. Ostomy care involves maintaining hygiene and managing the collection system to ensure comfort and prevent complications.
