Osteopathic Medical Schools
Osteopathic Medical Schools train students to become Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs), focusing on a holistic approach to patient care. These schools emphasize the importance of the body's musculoskeletal system and promote preventive medicine, encouraging students to consider the whole person rather than just specific symptoms.
In addition to traditional medical education, osteopathic programs include training in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a hands-on technique used to diagnose and treat various conditions. Graduates of these schools can practice in all medical specialties and are fully licensed to prescribe medication and perform surgery, similar to their allopathic counterparts, the Doctors of Medicine (MDs).
