Oropharynx
The oropharynx is the middle part of the throat located behind the mouth. It plays a crucial role in both the digestive and respiratory systems, as it serves as a passageway for food and air. The oropharynx extends from the soft palate to the upper edge of the epiglottis, which helps prevent food from entering the windpipe during swallowing.
This region contains important structures, including the tonsils and the uvula. The oropharynx is involved in the process of swallowing and is also a key area for speech. It is lined with mucous membranes that help protect against infections and facilitate the movement of food and air.
