Oriental Plane
The Oriental Plane is a large deciduous tree, scientifically known as *Platanus orientalis*. It is native to the Mediterranean region and is known for its broad, spreading canopy and distinctive bark, which peels away in patches to reveal a smooth, light-colored surface underneath. The tree can grow up to 100 feet tall and is often found in parks and along streets due to its shade-providing qualities.
This species is closely related to the American Sycamore and is often used in landscaping for its aesthetic appeal. The Oriental Plane produces large, ball-like seed clusters that can be seen hanging from its branches. Its leaves are broad and lobed, turning vibrant colors in the fall, making it a popular choice for ornamental planting.
