Platanus
Platanus, commonly known as the sycamore or plane tree, is a genus of deciduous trees native to the Northern Hemisphere. These trees are characterized by their broad, lobed leaves and distinctive bark, which often peels away in patches. They thrive in a variety of soil types and are commonly found in parks and along streets due to their ability to tolerate urban pollution.
There are several species of Platanus, with the most well-known being the Platanus occidentalis, or American sycamore. These trees can grow quite large, reaching heights of up to 100 feet. They are valued for their shade and aesthetic appeal, making them popular choices for landscaping and reforestation efforts.
