Ord River Irrigation Area
The Ord River Irrigation Area is located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It was developed in the 1960s to support agriculture by utilizing water from the Ord River. The area is known for its diverse farming, including crops like sugarcane, melons, and various fruits.
The irrigation scheme has transformed the landscape, allowing for year-round farming in a region that would otherwise be arid. The Lake Argyle reservoir, created by the Ord River Dam, plays a crucial role in supplying water to the irrigation area, making it one of the largest irrigation projects in Australia.
