Operation Weserübung
Operation Weserübung was the code name for Nazi Germany's invasion of Denmark and Norway during World War II, which began on April 9, 1940. The operation aimed to secure strategic locations and resources, particularly to control the supply of iron ore from Sweden and to establish naval bases along the Norwegian coast.
The invasion was swift, with Denmark surrendering within hours. Norway, however, put up more resistance, leading to a prolonged campaign. By June 1940, both countries were under German occupation, significantly impacting the war's dynamics in Northern Europe and securing Germany's access to the North Atlantic.
