Operation Compass
Operation Compass was a military campaign conducted by the British Commonwealth forces during World War II, specifically from December 1940 to February 1941. Its primary objective was to defeat the Italian Army in North Africa and secure control over the region. The operation began with a surprise attack on Italian positions in Egypt and quickly gained momentum, leading to significant territorial gains.
The campaign resulted in a decisive victory for the Allied forces, capturing thousands of Italian troops and large amounts of equipment. Operation Compass marked one of the first major successes for the Allies in the North African theater, boosting morale and demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated military strategy.
