Onin War
The Onin War was a civil conflict in Japan that lasted from 1467 to 1477. It marked the beginning of the Sengoku period, a time of social upheaval and military conflict. The war began as a power struggle between two factions of the Ashikaga shogunate, primarily the Yamana and Hosokawa clans, leading to widespread destruction in the capital, Kyoto.
The conflict resulted in the breakdown of central authority and the rise of regional warlords, known as daimyōs. The Onin War significantly altered the political landscape of Japan, contributing to the fragmentation of power and setting the stage for further conflicts in the years to come.
