One China Policy
The "One China Policy" is a diplomatic principle asserting that there is only one sovereign state under the name China, which includes both the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Taiwan. This policy is central to the PRC's foreign relations, as it insists that countries cannot recognize both the PRC and Taiwan as separate entities.
Under this policy, the PRC views Taiwan as a part of its territory, while Taiwan operates as a self-governing entity. Many countries, including the United States, acknowledge the One China Policy but maintain unofficial relations with Taiwan, balancing their diplomatic ties with both the PRC and Taiwan.
