Omohyoid
The omohyoid is a muscle located in the neck. It is part of the infrahyoid muscle group, which helps in the movement of the hyoid bone and the larynx. The omohyoid has two muscle bellies, the superior and inferior, connected by an intermediate tendon. It plays a role in swallowing and stabilizing the hyoid bone during speech.
This muscle originates from the scapula and inserts into the hyoid bone. The omohyoid is innervated by the ansa cervicalis, a loop of nerves from the cervical plexus. Proper functioning of the omohyoid is essential for activities involving the throat, such as swallowing and speaking.
