Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant
The Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant is located on the Olkiluoto Island in Finland. It consists of two operational reactors, Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2, which began commercial operation in 1979 and 1982, respectively. The plant is known for its significant contribution to Finland's electricity supply, providing about 30% of the country's total energy needs.
Currently, a third reactor, Olkiluoto 3, is under operation and is one of the largest nuclear reactors in the world. It began producing electricity in 2022 and is expected to enhance the plant's output significantly. The facility is operated by Teollisuuden Voima Oyj and emphasizes safety and environmental sustainability.
