Olkiluoto 1
Olkiluoto 1 is a nuclear power plant located in Finland, specifically on the Olkiluoto island in the Gulf of Bothnia. It began operations in 1979 and is one of the first commercial nuclear reactors in the country. The plant is designed to generate electricity through nuclear fission, using uranium as fuel.
The reactor is a pressurized water reactor (PWR) and has a net electrical output of approximately 660 megawatts. Olkiluoto 1 plays a significant role in Finland's energy production, contributing to the country's goal of reducing carbon emissions and increasing reliance on low-carbon energy sources.
